The Ann Russell Memorial Trust The Ann Russell Memorial Trust was set up in the memory of Ann Russell, Unit Superintendent Physiotherapist of the Glenfrith Unit for adults with learning disabilities in Leicestershire, following her death in July 1991.
The fund was donated by friends and colleagues of Ann so that she would be remembered in areas of her special interest and where her professional life was focused.
The national executive committee of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists for People with Learning Disabilities, (ACPPLD), have been appointed as the trustees and administrators of the Ann Russell Memorial Trust from January 1994.
Ann was a founder member of the clinical interest group, the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Mental Handicap, (ACPMH) now the ACPPLD. She was for 2 years the national chairman, she developed the education committee and was the prime mover in developing one of the first national courses for physiotherapists working with people who have a learning disability.
The Ann Russell Memorial Trophy was for several years awarded to various members of the ACPPLD who were nominated for making a contribution to the advancement of the practice of physiotherapy in services for people with learning disabilities. In 2006 the ACPPLD executive committee had discussions with Ann's family and agreed that the Ann Russell fund would be used to develop a new website for the ACPPLD. The remaining fund is to be used over the next few years to have an Ann Russell Memorial lecture at each years Learning Event. The memorial trophy will be handed over at the end of each Annual Learning Event to the next ACPPLD host region. |
